Wiring:

These notes contain wiring specs for:

82 Regal wagon fully optioned: 3.8L 2bbl, cruise, pw, pl, power hatch, AC, power seat, tilt wheel, delay wipers, rear defrost, vanity mirror pass. visor

87 Turbo T fully optioned: 3.8L Turbo6, cruise, pw, pl, power trunk, AC, tilt wheel, delay wipers, rear defrost, vanity mirror pass. Visor, factory security system

Rear speaker wires run down passenger side of the car.

Rear Defrost wiring: Heavy gauge Violet wire. Runs along the driver’s side roof. Both.

Taillight harness: Both cars contain the same wiring and plug, sort of. Wiring from fuse box to taillight harness has to be swapped. The 87 has the fuel pump wire, and the extra wire for the third brake light. The rest of the wires are the same, and the same color. They have the

same plugs, but some of the wires have to be relocated.

87Turbo T: wire bundle from fuse box goes to a 9 pin plug, with 7 wires used. This plugs into a 6 pin plug, and a 3 pin plug.

Pink Fuel Level

Blue/Black Third Brake Light

3 pin plug Tan/White Fuel Pump

Wagon: Same wires minus those for Fuel Pump and Third Brake light. Wires in different positions in plug(s). All you have to do is take a small nail (real small) or something like this to release the tab that holds the elec. connector in the plug.(You will see a tiny notch in the slot that holds the connector. Push the wire in, and then push in the nail.) Just remove the wires, and put them in the right spots. Remember to bend the tab out a little, so that it locks back in. (The really smart people at GM decided that instead of putting the Third Brake light wire into a vacant spot, that it would be better to move others, so that it could be put on the end.)

Sending unit: T: Grounds through plug, (wagon ground bolts to underside of floor pan)

Single black wire run outside of the bundle but in the same conduit, goes to power hatch/trunk. (From fuse box to rear of car. Single plug.)

Converting wagon taillight wiring harness to include the wires needed for fuel pump operation.

Wagon has one pink wire for sending unit. Remove grommet with pink wire from the floor. Carefully slice grommet open and remove wire. Drill out hole, large enough for two wires.

T Taillight and sending unit harness. Remove harness from car(you figure out how, it’s easy). Cut open grommet. Don’t worry about saving grommet, but don’t harm the wires. Remove the wires that go to the sending unit plug. This plug has a ground wire. The ground wire goes to a ring terminal, that also contains another ground wire. Cut the other ground wire right at the ring terminal. Remove blue retainer from gray connector that pink wire goes into, using small pin, or stiff wire(just like other plug listed above) Release elec. connector with pink wire.

Connect ring terminal under car, where original is. (Rear of gas tank strap support) Put pink and Tan/White wires through existing hole. Reuse original grommet that you modified. Use gasket sealer on the gasket. I also used a ty-rap, top and bottom to hold it together. Push grommet in the hole. Plug in!
